The winter solstice doesn’t officially begin until December 21st, but until that occurs you should be enjoying the Fall weather and dressing properly for it. Clothing options are definitely in abundance during these months and one piece that should be in your weekly rotation is the Field Jacket. The M-65 Field Jacket was introduced in 1965 as an upgrade to the M-51 and M-43 Field Jackets that were issued to troops of the United States Military during the Korean and Second World War. The new design which was made exclusively by Alpha Industries, featured a built in hood, velcro fasteners on the sleeve cuffs, extra pockets, and a detachable liner that provided warmth during colder days; something that was essential for soldiers during the Vietnam War. Alpha would go on to manufacture the M-65 for the commercial market in 1970, but throughout the years the jacket’s design has been conceptualized and emulated by a slew of different designers making it an extremely popular Fall item. Why is the Field Jacket so cool? Because it’s a great multipurpose piece of outerwear. You can rock it with a v-neck on the milder days or with a cardigan underneath when it gets chilly at night. You don’t have to be a soldier to wear the Field Jacket, but it’s an exceptional Fall piece that will help you battle the cold war in nothing but style.
