There’s nothing better than a South Beach getaway. Something about popping down for three or four days to soak up in some sun and indulge in pure relaxation always ends up hitting the spot. The thing about Miami is that most of the hotels are older with rooms that are super small so you’re always rolling the dice wherever you decide to stay. The beginning of Ocean Drive is a no go because the hotels in that area are terrible and the atmosphere can get way too hectic, but further up is a much better bet as you’re more likely to find a more modern place with a relaxed, chill vibe. And no place exudes more chill than the Surfcomber Hotel located on 17th Street and Collins Avenue.

The Surfcomber is true to its boutique style with some very eccentric décor that’s displayed throughout the lobby. There’s an array of funky couches, chairs and bookshelves around, but everything is laid out cohesively and works very well. The hotel is not that big, but has enough amenities to keep you occupied. Their restaurant The Social Club is attached to the lobby and has an excellent Happy Hour and great food. There’s a courtyard that leads to the pool area, full of lush greenery with benches to relax on. There are also some cool cow and sheep statues littered around the walkway that are artsy and definitely picture-worthy. The pool area has a mix of cabanas and lounge chairs and is big enough for you to sunbathe and catch a swim without feeling as though you’re on top of others. There’s also a gym, which is really tiny, but good enough for a decent workout.  Then there are the rooms; while the rooms are small, there’s still a decent amount of space inside. They’re clean and comfortable with very attentive housekeeping staff and depending on where you’re situated; you can have a really great view. The bathrooms are also fairly modern with nice tiles, glass partitions and rainfall showerheads (which I just happen to love). The staff here I must say is phenomenal. I walked in at around 10:30AM from an early flight, and was able to change, get my bags held and eventually check in much earlier than expected. The pool staff was super helpful, always-on point and any issue that I had was taken care of without a thought. Customer Service here is top notch and some of the best that I’ve actually experienced. You really could not ask for much more and everyone will help to make your getaway even that much better.

Despite their being no AC in the gym and the hotel allowing dogs by the pool, the pros highly outweighed the cons and you’re certain to have a superb experience. So if you’re looking for somewhere chic and chill for your next South Beach getaway, the Surfcomber should be your first choice.
