EDITOR’S RATING
While not our favorite, the beautifully salmon colored Corbières Rosé “Gris de Gris” goes best with a meal.
Today’s selection is a 2018 Corbières Rosé “Gris de Gris” from Domaine de Fontsainte in France. Blended with 90% Grenache Gris, 5% Carignan and 5% Mourvèdre, it has an alcohol content of 12.5% with a decent acidity. Suggested pairings are toast with crushed olives, grilled fish, lamb tagine and roasted guinea fowl with rosemary. We should have tasted this with the suggested pairings, as we did not really enjoy much it on its own. Fruity and dry, it was very bitter on the back end. I personally prefer a much lighter rose as this seemed heavier and much more robust. At a price point of $17 Corbières is not bad by any means, but should definitely be paired with a savory meal.
