A Dozen Rosés
EDITOR’S RATING
Light, dry and delicious, Mateus tastes great and is the perfect choice for a beautiful day in Lisbon.
For the final installment of our summer series A Dozen Rosé’s we take it back to Portugal one last time. From winemakers Sogrape Vinhos and produced in Vila Nova De Gaia, Mateus is billed as the first Portuguese wine brand with the greatest international reach. Made with Baga and Shiraz, Mateus has an alcohol content of 12% with an acidity of 5.9 g/l, and it’s suggested pairings are fresh salads, seafood, white fish, grilled vegetables, summer pastas, cold turkey/chicken and charcuterie platters. Mateus is a very good Rose. Light, dry and fruity, there is no bitterness apparent and each glass is very enjoyable. Hints of berries are present making this a very delicious and tasty option. I personally am very partial to Mateus as this was my main choice for basically every day during a visit to Portugal, but personal preference aside, it is a solid option and one of the better choices that we have tasted over the last twelve weeks.
