EDITOR’S RATING
If you love Mediterranean cuisine, then Café Mogador is sure to deliver in every way.
City Eats brings us over to Williamsburg, Brooklyn to the Moroccan/Mediterranean inspired Café Mogador. The original East Village location was founded in 1983 by founder Rivka, with the Brooklyn location opening up in 2011. Walking into Café Mogador feels as though you are entering a renovated old saloon. The vibe here is very eclectic and features some really cool décor choices. Diamond wood planks bring out the character in the floors, old vintage pictures on the walls tell their own special story, while antique dinner plates that could be straight from your grandmother’s cabinets are positioned stylishly above the bar. Mogador is sectioned into two areas; the front, which has a comfy living room feel, and the back, which is similar to an indoor garden or patio. Service to me is the make or break for any establishment regardless if the meal is great and I must say that the service here was exceptional. The wait staff was prompt and attentive, providing all of the great qualities that one expects when dining out. This truly impressed me as I struggled to order and did need a bit of help. At first the menu seems simple and unassuming, but making a decision was tough as nothing on the menu instantly jumps out to you. With some assistance from the server, we sampled the Steamed Mussels and Sauteed Shrimp as appetizers and the Pan Roasted Chicken and Grilled Hanger Steak as entrees. All I can say is wow. The appetizers were fantastic. The mussels and shrimp were the epitome of seafood done right, cooked well with sauces that were savory. The entrees were just as great. The steak was soft and tender just melting in your mouth while the chicken was seasoned to perfection and loaded with flavor. To say this was a great meal was such an understatement. Williamsburg is bursting from the seams with new hotels and restaurants, but this is place to experience what a real dinner in the city is truly supposed to be like.
