EDITOR’S RATING
You’ll have a hard time trying to figure out what’s better here; the cool vibes or the good food. A well worthy experience.
Welcome to City Eats where we will explore the endless variety of dining establishments throughout New York City and beyond. Our first entry brings us to the chic Capital Grille located in Manhattan’s Financial District. As you walk into Capital, your eyes can’t help but wander around trying to soak up the entire atmosphere. The dimly lit, intimate ambiance is only enhanced by the smooth sounds of the jazz quartet playing in the balcony above. You’ll instantly be drawn to the décor on the walls that are adorned with artwork featuring equestrians, aristocrats and explorers that will make you feel as though you’re attending a fancy dinner party. The staff here is extremely attentive and very thorough. They’ll check on you consistently throughout the evening and make you feel extremely welcome. One of the nicer touches was the waiter presenting the cocktail options on an iPad for you to select. The drink recommendations were also spot on, so that made the experience even better. Because this was the tail end of restaurant week, there was an option to choose from two menus, one featuring a three-course Prix-Fixe. We sampled the Ceasar Salad and Wedge with Bleu Cheese and Applewood Smoked Bacon for appetizers, then the Herb Roasted Chicken and Seared Citrus Glazed Salmon as entrees. Both salads were very good with the Wedge being the more flavorful of the two. The entrees were both excellent. The Herb Roasted Chicken was tender and juicy while the Salmon was crisp and succulent. The dessert selections were the Crème Brulee and Flourless Chocolate Espresso Cake. The Espresso was very rich and a tad bit sweet, but the Crème Brulee was light, not too decadent and by far the better choice. Another nice touch was the waiter providing complimentary flutes of champagne, which was a classy gesture on their part.
Capital Grille is a swanky, customer service-oriented establishment that has a wonderful feel and great menu. A must try for those of you that appreciate the art of fine dining, its places like this that make the food experience something to talk about.
