EDITOR’S RATING
The popular and well reviewed Punto Final might be a bit too strong for my liking, but its a good bottle that goes very well with dinner.
The next bottle on our list is a 2013 Punto Final from Argentinian winery Renacer. Comprised of grapes from Uco Valley and Lujan de Cuyo, it is rated the number two most popular Argentinian Wine by Wine & Spirits among its many other accolades and is one of the go-to brands for Malbec. Light and fruity with hints of berries coming through, this selection seemed very strong and had a tart after-taste with each sip. It’s very full-bodied and had a long finish to it. The alcohol content was fairly high at 14.0% along with an acidity content of 5.4 g/l and I was able to finish about half the bottle before I had enough. Although my palette was able to adjust, this is not a sit down and relax to bottle; it’s definitely a dinner wine as the suggested pairings are red meat, game meat, flavorful sauced and intense cheeses. The price range is south of $15 and an overall good buy for a generally positively reviewed Malbec.
