Brooklyn has certainly come a long way over the past decade or so. It went from being the borough that nobody wanted to travel over the bridge for, to one of the hippest places that one can be. Williamsburg might have the momentum at the moment, but Bed-Stuy is still the area for some really great food and fun. One place that’s worth a shot for a very fun Brunch is the Cajun themed Catfish. Displaying a very subtle exterior, Catfish has a small sign displaying its name in bright neon letters attached to the all-black façade that welcomes you in. On the inside the décor stays to true to its New York style with hardwood floors, exposed brick and ceiling beams that are complimented by a comfy southern feel (NOLA to be exact). The walls are adorned with vintage signs, various trinkets and have tiny bottles of hot sauce on top of the seats, which adds a very interesting touch. The brunch menu is short and simple, yet pleasantly agonizing. You’ll find yourself continuously going back and forth through the fantastic food options trying to find a selection that pleases you. There’s the Cajun Pulled Pork, Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs and Bananas Foster Cakes. Want to go left field? Then try the two-egg platter with buttermilk biscuits and a side of bacon. The egg platter is very good, but the biscuits and bacon are really out of sight. Soft and buttery, the addition of warm Andouille sausage gravy makes it that much better. The bacon is brought out in thick cut strips that were simply delicious in all of their salty goodness. Other options on the menu are the Catfish Po’ Boy, Shrimp N’ Grits and Pain Perdu, which are all respectively great as well, but dependent on what your preference is. All in all, Catfish was a really awesome place for a Sunday brunch, but with a bevy of interesting dinner options on hand, looks to definitely be worth a weeknight visit as well.
