EDITOR’S RATING
Nothing better than a neighborhood favorite. The chill atmosphere and good food will almost guarantee multiple visits.
One of the best things about the Clinton Hill-Fort Greene area is the distinct choice of restaurants located in the area. Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Greek, Italian; anything your heart desires is available within walking distance. Having so many options for lunch and dinner is great, but let’s face it we know that nothing gets people more gets excited than a great brunch lineup. There’s an abundant selection around here whenever Sunday rolls around, and one place that serves it up well is Putnam’s Pub and Cooker.
Located on the corner of Myrtle and Clinton Avenues Putnam’s has been serving up great fare for about three years and is a cool fixture in the neighborhood. A nice place to grab a drink, watch the game or have dinner, the vibes here are relaxed, chill and laid back. The interior is pretty basic; some cool chandeliers hanging from the ceiling with a few booths that have an assortment of books directly on the top. The brunch menu is very good, with its standout being the overly indulgent country breakfast. Served with eggs, thick strips of bacon, sausage, grilled tomatoes, mushrooms and hash browns, this entrée is tasty and hearty. The buttermilk biscuits here are reminiscent of something you’d be served down south; meaning it’s authentic and on point. Other great choices are the Chicken Biscuit and juicy Brunch Burger (Not to be mistaken for the Putnam’s Burger). But food isn’t their only strong point; they have a variety of craft cocktails, a hearty draft and bottled beer selection and wines available if that’s what you crave. The service here is pretty good and the servers are friendly, which makes Putnam’s the place you’ll want to go if feeling welcome and having a good time is your thing.
